El Celler de Can Roca: guide & booking
El Celler de Can Roca, the Roca brothers' 3-Michelin-star in Girona, twice world No.1. How to book the waiting list and the Rocambolesc ice cream shop.
El Celler de Can Roca is Girona's most celebrated restaurant and one of the most acclaimed on the planet: three Michelin stars and twice number one on The World's 50 Best Restaurants. Three Girona-born brothers (Joan, Josep and Jordi Roca) have run it since 1986, and today it draws food lovers from across the world.
The three Roca brothers
El Celler works like an equilateral triangle between the siblings. Joan leads the savoury kitchen, Josep is the sommelier behind one of Europe's most talked-about cellars, and Jordi is the pastry chef, repeatedly named the world's best dessert chef. That clear division of roles, held with discipline for decades, is the backbone of the project.
Stars and recognition
The restaurant earned its first Michelin star in 1995, its second in 2002 and its third in 2009. On The World's 50 Best Restaurants it was crowned number one in 2013 and 2015, and has since joined the 'Best of the Best' hall of fame. Few restaurants have sustained such a track record so consistently.
The philosophy: cuisine and memory
The Rocas blend avant-garde technique with deep roots in Girona and the Emporda: local produce, childhood memories and nods to the family restaurant where they grew up. The tasting menus change with the seasons and often include creations that became famous, such as Jordi's perfume-inspired desserts. Out of respect for verifiable facts, we don't quote specific prices here: always check the official website before booking.
How to book (bring patience)
Reserving a table at El Celler de Can Roca takes method. Bookings are handled only through the restaurant's official website; the dining room sits on Carrer de Can Sunyer in Girona. A new reservation window opens at 00:00 on the 1st of each month, up to 11 months ahead, and tables vanish within minutes. If none are left, you can join the waiting list. Practical tips: have several dates ready, log on right at midnight and read the cancellation terms.

Rocambolesc: the accessible Roca
If you can't land a table, there's a far easier way to taste the Roca world. In 2012, Jordi Roca and Alejandra Rivas opened Rocambolesc, an ice cream shop in the heart of the pedestrian centre at Carrer de Santa Clara 50. They serve artisan ice creams made to order (in a cone, a cup or inside a warm brioche) with no reservation and no waiting list. The brand later grew with a candy boutique and a bikineria. It's the democratic, delicious way to sample the Rocas' talent for a few euros.
